About Us
Our Mission
The mission of FAB is to facilitate communication between formulations, analytical, and bioanalytical scientists, primarily through quarterly events, to foster understanding and to encourage the sharing of knowledge relevant to the development of parenteral biopharmaceuticals, such as proteins and peptides.
Who We Are
Anna-Maria A. Hays Putnam, Ph.D.
Anna-Maria Putnam is presently employed as Group Leader directing the analytical and formulations team at Ambrx, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing “best in class” protein and antibody drugs based on site-specific incorporation of novel amino acids into proteins. Previous to Ambrx, she was a joint NIH postdoctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute and the California Institute of Technology, focusing on protein engineering and the design and synthesis of tethered transition metal probes for metalloenzymes. Anna-Maria obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from University of California, Riverside in 1999, focusing on the area of proton-coupled electron transfer events in Photosystem II and received her B.A. in Biology and German from Emory and Henry College in 1994.

Henriette Kuehne, Ph.D.
Henriette Kuehne graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from Haverford College. She received M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale University, where she studied proton-coupled electron transfers in Photosystem II. Following a post-doc in the directed evolution and selection of catalytic ribozymes at The Scripps Research Institute, Henriette joined Magellan Laboratories (later Cardinal Health) in 2001, where she headed the structural biochemistry group. Since 2006, Henriette has been working as a scientist at Amylin Pharmaceuticals, developing protein therapeutics for metabolic diseases.

Karin Lucas, Ph.D.
Karin Lucas received her B.S. in biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and went on to complete her Ph.D. in biochemistry at UCSD. She currently works as a scientist at Biogen Idec where she develops protein pharmaceutics for the treatment of cancer and multiple sclerosis. Previously, Dr. Lucas was a scientist and project director at Cardinal Health where she worked on the development of over 25 products with multiple pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Karin also works as an instructor at Biotech Primer, Inc. and has given lectures on biotechnology to government groups in Maryland, California, Canada and Malaysia.
Dr. Lucas is an active community volunteer and has served as the PR chair and later Vice President of the San Diego chapter of AWIS (Association for Women In Science). In 1998 Karin was honored as the Cal Poly physical chemistry student of the year and in 2003 she was selected for the “AWIS San Diego Rookie of the Year” award.

Linh Nguyenle, Ph.D.
Linh Nguyenle has about 10 years of experience in formulation and analytical development in the pharmaceutical industry. She currently works as a senior scientist and group leader at Catalent where she works on formulation and analytical method development, method validation, ICH stability studies and experiments in support of the development of pharmaceutical products which include small molecules, peptides, proteins and oligonucleotides (both RNA and DNA). Previously, Linh worked at Roche Bioscience in the Formulation and Analytical Department and at SRI International in the Analytical Department of the Life Sciences Division. Linh received her B.S in Biochemistry from University of California, Davis and her Ph. D. in Molecular and Biochemistry from University of California, Santa Cruz where she developed a method that uses synchrotron X-ray-generated hydroxyl radicals to determine the solution structure of the ribosome and to monitor in real time the movements of solvent accessible surfaces of ribosomal RNA during translation.

Laura R. Salmeron
Laura Salmeron graduated from University Autonomae of Guadalajara in Jalisco Mexico (1989). BS in Biochemistry and Microbiology and Medical Technologist.
She has worked at BIIB for 15 years. Leads the Analytical Development Testing Group in San Diego, where she provides Analytical Support to Technical Development groups using CE techniques, HPLC-MS and Bioassays. Prior to working in Biotechnology, Laura worked in Clinical Laboratories for 6 years. Members Emeriti
Sara Wright, Ph.D.
Sara Wright has over seven years of analytical development experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Ambrx, Inc. as a Scientist in July 2008 she was a member of the structural characterization group at Catalent Pharma Solutions (formerly Cardinal Health). In 2004 Sara obtained her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she developed a laser technique which utilized two-photon laser excitation to study chromatin diffusion in live cells. Before attending graduate school, Sara was a Research Associate at Roche Bioscience in Palo Alto. She received her B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of California at Davis in 1996.
Sara is a co-founder of FAB and served as a member until her move to the Bay Area in the summer of 2009.
